Outreach  Feeding  Programme

The Kingston SDB Church saw and was touched by the need of a large and growing number of homeless people who appeared to live on the streets of Kingston. Many of these persons frequently visited the church seeking financial or other material assistance.  In  responding to this need,  the Church decided to start an outreach feeding programme to provide a cooked meal to these and other persons who required this assistance two Sunday evenings of every month.  A short devotional or worship service preceded the serving of meals on each occasion. This programme was started in November 1997 with the full endorsement of the Church Pastor, Advisory Board and the Catering Committee which prepared and served the meals.  Members of the Catering Committee at that time included Sisters Janet Morris, Jennefer Morris and Paulette Wheatle.  The programme has continued until the present time without any significant interruptions catering to between 70 and 100 persons each evening.  Occasionally persons are also provided with clothing items and personal effects.  Sisters Erline Hall, Orinthia Clayton, Earline  Daley , Cherry Levy and Deacon Eric Murphy (now deceased) have all contributed greatly to the success of the programme over the years.
